Detour

She told him to take the long way home

Selfishly, she didn't want the ride to end.

She always took the long way home when she was alone.

But with him, she had someone to point out every weird landmark or untouched little American town.

Yes the car was stuffy, and sure the back roads would take an extra hour or two,

But maybe it's the detours that justify these miles.

She'd gladly take the time, if he didn't mind.
